Konami: Some Background and News

Konami Corporation is one of the largest leading publishers and developers in video gaming. Konami is widely known for series such as Metal Gear, Dance Dance Revolution, Castlevania, Contra and Silent Hill. Although Konami is largely known for its video games, they also produce popular toys, trading cards, slot machines and arcade cabinets. Throughout Japan, Konami also operates several health and fitness clubs, and in the United States and Europe they have various facilities for video and casino gaming.
Founded in 1969 as a jukebox rental and repair business in Osaka Japan, Konami quickly switched gears. Starting slow, Konami created successful arcade machines such as Frogger and Super Cobra, and later moved on to manufacturing and releasing PC games. Over the next couple of years Konami would establish itself as an important development studio within gaming, working with Nintendo Entertainment Studios, PlayStation, and Xbox among others. When working with NES, Konami would become one of the most active and successful third party development studios, developing the game series Contra and Metal Gear. Konami has created some of the most unforgettable video games in current years and transformed the music gaming genre with Dance Dance Revolution. Konami is also involved in movie production. Producing the 2006 film based on the popular survival horror game Silent Hill and announcing a Metal Gear Solid film for future release.
In current news Konami is set to release NeverDead. An action/fantasy/horror game set in the near future where daemons plague the earth and an immortal stands to defend the planet. NeverDead is due for release in fall 2011 for the Xbox360 and PS3 console. Another game that is set to be released in fall 2011 is the highly anticipated Silent Hill: Downpour. Some other games currently slated for future release are Metal Gear Solid Rising and Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship.
