Dance Dance Revolution, also known by the commonly used nickname DDR, is a dance phenomenon that is something you truly have to experience. While it may only be a simple movement of your feet in front of you, behind you or to either side, your whole body gets into the dance while you are listening to popular club hits. As you level up, the pace and movement required to do well get harder which keeps the game new and fun. This game requires a DDR disc along with a dance mat that you can hook up wirelessly to your Xbox system. This is a great family or party game that can be played by up to 4 players at the same time with separate mats and there is an online feature which you can against 3 players as well. The ESRB rating for this game, which is the video game rating system for many of the DDR family of games is ‘E 10′ which also means ‘Everyone 10 years older and up’ because of some of the lyrics from the songs used in the game. Join the DDR community on Xbox today to see what the hype is all about!

Many fans of the series are wondering when we will see a DDR title for this generation’s Play Station console. It maybe longer than we think since Konami doesn’t seem to have any future plans for the franchise at this moment but hope is improving with the release of the Play Station move. So what should we expect in the next DDR title for the Play Station?

Hopefully we see more motion based controls and a wider variety of songs. One would think in the age of downloadable content that this would be a big push for Konami to release a new DDR using this generation’s abilities. This will expand game play for all of us that love the franchise. What would be the best way for Konami to utilize the Move in programming the new DDR?

The ability to calculate more precise movement would help evolve the game from where it began. Being able to track upper body movement as well as lower body movement will enhance the experience for anyone who is beginning to play and will compete with the current dance title. Many fans of this series would love to see this series evolve and we soon will hopefully.

Dance Dance Revolution is the original video game that got people on their feet. It’s a game where you have a pad with 4 or more symbols on them. As the symbols, which are usually arrows, drop down you have to hit them on the pad as they hit a certain point on the screen. The concept is pretty simple. The practice is not. Being able to play DDR well takes quite a bit of skill and determination. Once you really start to get good it becomes extremely gratifying. Being able to see yourself hitting all of those notes while barely thinking about them is a great feeling.

Plus it’s a great source of exercise. Thanks to all of the new motion tracking technologies found on all of the major platforms all sorts of exercise games are coming out. They can be extremely boring. All they try to make you do is basically bring a gym to your house. Except this gym doesn’t have any weights or real machines. When you are playing DDR you burn tons of calories. And you’re able to have fun while you’re doing it. Plus you’re able to listen and dance to your favorite songs. Exercise really doesn’t get any better.

I’m sure you’ve seen the kids in the arcades jumping around like crazy people stomping on brightly colored arrows. Dance Dance Revolution was a game that took Japan by storm in the 90′s. By the early 2000′s , America was in full swing revitalize the dying arcade system. Kids would travel hours to play on a new machine in a neighboring town. Competitions evolved and celebrities were born. There are different ways to play DDR. Some play Dance Dance Revolution in the way it was intended, by trying to get the best score possible. However, a newer subgenre is a group of people who only have to pass the song, but do it in as much style as possible. This is called freestyle DDR. Watching one of these guys perform really is a treat as it is essentially free style dancing. They get really into it and the crowds love it.The internet has become a place where DDR fans get all their new info about games. They use their wireless internet connections to learn where the latest competition is, or watch a video of an up and coming star. Without things like the internet, niche hobbies like DDR wouldn’t be able to thrive.

If you love everything about DDR and want to make sure you stay fit enough to keep it in your exercise rotation without having to fear the risk of injury, here are some tips to keep in mind with regard to the importance of stretching since your body will always perform better if you incorporate a series of stretches before undertaking any physical activity.

Consider stretching to be as important an element as training for strength, balance and power.

Proper alignment improves stretches and prevents injury consider practicing your stretches in front of a mirror until you know you have perfected alignment and can attain maximum benefit.

Always practice deep and consistent breathing while stretching. To hold your breath as you stretch is counterintuitive to achieving any benefit.

A tip for better breathing as you stretch includes inhaling through your nose while pulling air into your diaphragm not your chest and exhaling through your mouth. Pilates aficionados consistently use this technique to build core strength.

You should warm your muscles before doing any stretching. This can be a simple one minute jog in place, just make sure that your muscles have been warmed up before asking them to perform a stretch of any kind.

Stretching must encompass a “full body” approach. To exclude certain muscles is inviting trouble to crop up later. Most commonly overlooked muscles that rear their heads in injury and anger are the neck and hips.

Be sure you do not stretch so hard that you cause the muscle to tear or cause injury to yourself. You will rapidly learn to distinguish the difference between a good stretch and a bad stretch. You should not feel any sharp pain, just a steady pull.

Since you’re already going to be linked with a television as you have fun with DDR you might consider purchasing a DVD that focuses on stretching and alignment techniques to help you prepare and stay injury-free.

DanceDance Revolution has been a popular game for more than eleven years. However, on November 16th, the game’s developers will release the first edition for PlayStation Move. The new PlayStation Move is similar to the motion features of the Wii. With the addition of the PlayStation EYE and the system’s first motion controller, gamers can finally get into their PS3 games. So how will the new PlayStation Move change the latest DanceDance Revolution? The game will offer special features that allow you to truly be a part of the DanceDance Revolution community. For example, thanks to the use of the EYE, you can record your jam-packed moves and upload them to your favorite sites; such as Facebook and YouTube. The EYE will also increase the intensity of your friendly competitions. The Dance Off Mode will now feature an on-screen view of your moves. Gaining points will depend on how accurately you dance (and the camera will pick up on your every step).Dancers can also play 4 to 20 un-interrupted songs with the Club Mode feature. You could also hit the non-stop button; that way, you can keep dancing until your gauge is completely gone. This time around, artists such as Jordin Sparks and Lady Gaga are said to be featured on the game. With the introduction of the new PlayStation Move, the DDR Bundle will take your dancing, as well as your experience with the game’s community, to a whole new level.

Even though most people associate those flashing arrow pads of Dance Dance Revolution with an arcade, the fun doesn’t have to stop there. An entire line of different styles of pads let you bring this gaming favorite to your living room. Twelve years after its inception, fans are still running to get the next DDR pad. As much as we all want to crown ourselves a dancing sensation, there’s more to this game than just a putting a little swing in your hips. With over 18 different pads to choose from, no matter what level you can claim to have mastered, there is a DDR pad that will suit you.If you’re a newcomer to the game you might want to try out something inexpensive and simple like the DDR Non-Slip Pad. This mat is available for Playstation, Playstation 2, Xbox, Wii, and even your PC. This is one of the more affordable DDR pads, and the no-slip feature is a must for rookies. You may look on and think it’s a piece of cake, but wait ’til it’s your turn to tangle up your feet, face plant and come up with a carpet burn on your nose. However, if you’ve spent years honing your skills as an expert at DDR, it’s time to step up to the big leagues with an official arcade-style metal pad. These will set you back a few hundred dollars but talk about a party trick! This game has been around so long that new technology is now changing the scope of play. Instead of having to clutter your living room with wires and constantly having to hook up the system, try one of the many wireless DDR pads now available. If you really want to test your skills there are now pads with an extra four buttons for added difficulty. The Master Super Deluxe is the training camp for the next DDR world champion.

Even though we’ve all had to learn the hard way that “It’s harder than it looks,” you don’t want to give your friends the satisfaction of watching you eat it on the arcade floor. Even if it means a little incognito, at-home practice, there are a few easy tips to mastering at least the basic levels of the game.

Don’t Punish the Pad: Your determination and concentration may make you want to put down a heavy foot on each step, but this is not only ungraceful, but unsuccessful. You don’t have to stomp on the arrows to register your body weight, you’re not a feather. Stomping also takes longer and can throw you off balance, making the next step harder to execute. Besides, it makes you look like you have a personal vendetta against an arcade machine, which will lose you major cool points.

Stay Out of the Middle: After the game starts, there is no logical reason to have your feet in the middle of the pad. It’s much easier to go from one arrow to the other then to go from one arrow, back to the middle, and then to the next arrow. You won’t lose points for keeping your foot on one of the arrows, so don’t waste your time. Especially when you move to the higher levels, this will kill your game.

Use Both Feet: Would you go to a club and hop around, dancing on one foot? No. So, why do it on a simulated dance floor? Even though it’s easy in the beginning to rely on your dominant foot, this will form a habit of play and limit your ability as you advance in levels.

Listen to the Song: The steps actually match up with the beat of the song, so if you can focus on getting into the rhythm of the music, the steps will come more naturally and you’ll begin to flow with the game.

Challenge Yourself: If you spend all of your time memorizing one song, you may have that one mastered but you won’t really impress anyone. No one wants to watch you do the same routine over and over. The only way to get better is by taking chances and trying new and harder levels each time.

It’s certainly up for debate whether the rapid, spastic foot movements of Dance Dance Revolution gamers are actually a form of dance, but one thing is sure, it gets the heart pumping. The Japanese video game is now over a decade old and still one of the best-known games on the market. The four-arrowed dance pad became such a sensation in video arcades that fans began running to the stores to bring this game to their living room. It’s something the whole family will enjoy, and many parents are more likely to allow their children to play this game for extended periods of time because it requires physical activity. Even President Obama’s kids get to play DDR, and Michelle Obama has suggested incorporating this game into schools to get kids active again. Though some scoff at the fact that kids today need a machine to make them get up and move, it’s better than nothing. When you go to pick out your DDR video game, you don’t have to settle with the same old original theme you’ve played a thousand times. Always dreamed of just one dance with Zac Efron or Hannah Montana? With the DDR Disney Channel Edition, the stars come to your living room. If you’re set on really dropping the pounds, this fun, high-energy game is your best asset. DDR Extreme Dance not only has even more intense dancing missions but it also has a calorie counting feature that will show you how much you burn while you’re tearing it up on the dance pad. We know you love being the star of the show, but with the new DDR Hottest Party game for Nintendo Wii everybody can get up and get moving. Multi-player features and top 40 hits will turn your living room into a pulse-pounding night club.

Unlike last year’s tournament this round is seeking out volunteers to host round one events at local arcades and clubs. The first round is well underway, having began on July 15th. Round one is open to any individuals; all you have to do is register, which can be done online. The first round will end September 30th. Round 2 will last from October 1st to November 19th and will include the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers from each round one event. The finals will be held on December 4th, the day a new DDR champion will be crowned. The tournament includes three divisions: Youth Division (3rd grade through 7th grade) Young Adult Division (7th grade through 12th grade) and the Adult Division (over 18). The winner from each division will receive a trophy and a 250 gift certificate. Travel and hotel accommodation will be provided for all finalists of the tournament. The prize money may not seem monumental, but you’re really competing for the respect of the entire DDR community. If you’ve never been able to master this game, that doesn’t mean you’re out of luck here. You can join the mayhem as a fan. Registered fans are even eligible to win a free iPod.
